All Creatures Great and Small
an exhibition of small embroideries in the foyer of Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) to raise funds for artwork for the Children’s Ward
Opens in late November
A small group of women raised $500,000 for the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games by selling 636 quilts donated by their makers from all over Australia.
Liz Sloman led a group of makers. Their quilt, embroidered with blocks of animals and plants of Australia, was based on whimsical drawings by naive artist John Butler. So many blocks were made that some had to be put aside.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Games, these embroideries have been framed, made into small quilts, or left as patches to be sewn on clothing. These delightful examples of Australiana, with their association to our glorious Paralympic Games, will be on sale in late November in the entrance to Ambulatory Care in the foyer of RNSH.
Profits from the sales will go towards artwork for the Children’s Ward at RNSH.
Come and buy your piece of history and support the acquisition of a new artwork for the Children’s Ward.
